Teacher beats schoolboy to death in Raja

A school teacher has beaten a pupil to death at Kuru Primary School in Raja County, Western Bahr el Ghazal state.

The school teacher was assaulting the pupil as punishment for going to a night disco dance.

The primary schoolboy was one of the 17 pupils who received corporal punishment from the teacher for going to the dance.

“In the morning when the teachers came, they read out the names of pupils who went to a night club, the teachers then decided to punish each of them with seven strokes, and when they punished this boy, he died because he was badly injured, ” Raja county commissioner Mr. Hassan Jelad told Eye Radio

Hon. Hassan said the teacher is being questioned by the police.

The Penal code says whoever subjects a child to ill-treatment which results in serious injury or mounting to culpable homicide, the offender upon conviction shall be sentenced to 5 years imprisonment, or fine or both.
