Sudan has dispatched a 40-member search and rescue team to Turkiye to support recovery efforts after devastating earthquakes that have left tens of thousands dead, and many others homeless.
The rescue team, including 7 medical personnel from the Civil Defence Forces departed from Khartoum International Airport to Gaziantep Airport on the weekend, according to Africa News.
The relief items include 1,000 blankets, 250 tents and food materials as well as a large number of search and rescue equipment.
The death toll in the 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Turkiye and Syria has surpassed 28,000, and hope of finding many more survivors is fading despite some miraculous rescues.
Reuters reported on Sunday that exhausted rescuers pulled dwindling numbers of survivors from rubble five days after the natural disasters.
In Syria, the situation on the ground has been described as “absolutely catastrophic” by Syria’s civil defense group, the White Helmets.
