An SSPDF soldier deployed at Luwala military barrack shot the head chief of Lobonok Payam in Juba County after he was told there was no food.

This is according to his son Richard Matayo Kenyi Jale who spoke to Eye Radio on Wednesday, August 30, in Juba.

He said the father was shot at around 7:00 PM near the military barracks in the Pageri area of Luwala Boma.

The motive of the incident remains unclear.

But Richard says the soldier first came to his father’s house and was given money.

The soldier later returned and asked for food when he shot the 68-year-old chief, wounding him in the chest.

The chief was rushed to Juba Tuesday night where he was operated on a bullet wound in his chest.

Richard calls on the Government to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrator to justice.

“This incident happened at Pageri around 7 pm in Luwala Boma, according to the eyewitnesses. The person who did this is one of the soldiers at SSPDF barracks in the Luwala area,” Kenyi told Eye Radio.

“He came to our father during the day but our father was busy with some people and he went away,” he said.

“In the evening after our father took his supper, he came back and our father gave him some money and went to buy cigarettes and alcohol.”

“This soldier called Dut came again, and asked for food. Our father asked our mother if there was food, but our mother said the food was finished since the kids eat it all and said he would have been given food if he come early.”

“He then started shooting at the kitchen as our mother was coming out of the kitchen. Our father was sitting in the front of his room and asked what was happening, and immediately started shooting at him.”

“He shot him in the chest with three bullets, through the armpit from behind,” he said.

Lobonok area which is the home village of Vice President for Economic Cluster Dr. James Wani Igga has witnessed several attacks and killing since 2016.

Eye Radio’s efforts to get a response from the SSPDF spokesperson Major General Lul Ruai Koang were not immediately successful.
