SPLM-IG, SPLM-IO, SSOA sign command structure deal

The parties to the revitalized agreement have reached a deal to end the stalemate over the command structure of the unified forces on Sunday.

The peace parties have signed a roadmap to chart the way forward on the implementation of the security arrangements of the revitalized peace agreement.

In a press release on Sunday, President Salva Kiir and FVP Riek Machar agreed to a proposal submitted by the Sudanese mediation team who came to Juba last week.

On Friday, a Sudanese delegation led by Gen. Mohamed Hamdan Daglo met the parties to the agreement to discuss issues pertaining the implementation of the revitalized agreement.

The Sudanese mediators submitted the undisclosed proposal for the delayed establishment of the Unified Command Structure.

Tut Gatluak Manime who is the presidential advisor on security affairs signed on behalf of the government.

“Today [Sunday], Juba has witnessed that we have done all the security arrangements regarding the forces who are in the training centers and the second group to enter training centers,” Tut said.

“After one week from now we will release the timeline for the graduation of the forces who are in training centers and the entering of new forces to the training centers.

“We thank the government of Sudan on behalf of Hamadan Daglo, the vice president of Sudanese Sovereign Council and the chairman of the mechanism for implementing the South Sudan Agreement.”

Martin Abucha is the minister of mining and representative of the SPLM-IO.

He thanked the Sudanese government for the breakthrough.

“With this, wisdom has given us a chance today to sign this matrix for implementation of the security arrangement,” Abucha said.

“We have nothing to say apart from giving thanks to Sudanese’s government in person of the Vice-President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant-General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo.

“He has been patient with us for some days and this Ramadan season and meetings were conducted in halls for long hours more than nine to ten hours, thank you for being patient with us, the Sudanese people and government and the accompanying delegation.”

According to the statement, the principals will now form a unified armed forces command within one week’s time.

Last week, the SPLM-IO rejected a presidential order offering them three top security positions, terming it as unilateral and a violation the Khartoum workshop on power sharing.

President Kiir made the reshuffle in an attempt to solve the stalemate on the security arrangement.
