The Speaker of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly, Joseph Ngere Paciko, has eulogised former Chief Justice Ambrose Riiny Thiik as a distinguished national figure and statesman following his passing on Saturday.

According to family sources, Ambrose Thiik died in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, due to heart failure at the age of 86.

Ambrose Thiik served as the first Chief Justice in the pre-independence government of Southern Sudan between 2005 and 2007.

In a condolence message issued this morning, Speaker Paciko described the late justice as a distinguished national figure who played a key role in shaping South Sudan’s justice system.

He said Ambrose Riiny Thiik served with integrity, wisdom, and courage during his tenure as Chief Justice, contributing significantly to the development of the rule of law in the country.

Speaker Paciko added that the nation has lost a statesman and a guardian of justice whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

He extended condolences on behalf of the Transitional National Legislative Assembly to the family, friends, and loved ones of the late Chief Justice, wishing them strength and comfort during this difficult time.
