The South Sudan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has dismissed as baseless, media reports regarding South Sudan’s alleged support for parties involved in the Sudanese conflict.

According to the Ministry, the government of South Sudan has learned about the recent allegations circulating in the media in that it is involved in the conflict in some regions of the Republic of Sudan.

The ministry statement did not disclose the source of the accusations, and it was not immediately clear how Juba allegedly meddled in the Sudanese affairs.

But it said any suggestions that South Sudan is taking advantage of the current situation in the Sudan, are baseless.

South Sudan shares a long history and deep-rooted relations with Sudan and Juba has a vested interest in the restoration of peace in the Republic of Sudan, the ministry said.

It cites President Salva Kiir’s active engaged in efforts to facilitate Sudan peace process while alluding to the recent consultative meeting held in Juba for the party signatories to the Juba Peace Agreement.

The foreign ministry said Kiir’s mediation to the peace process is a testament to the South Sudan’s commitment to fostering peace and stability in Sudan.

It further stressed that the conflict has far-reaching ramifications on the region, particularly the growing influx of refugees entering the neighboring countries.

As such, South Sudan recognizes the need for immediate action to prevent further humanitarian situation crisis by playing a constructive role in resolving the conflict, it says.

According to the ministry, the government will continue to engage with the regional and international stakeholders to enhance diplomatic efforts, facilitate reconciliation and contribute to the general stability on the region.

Meanwhile, it urged the public to exercise caution and refrain from spreading baseless allegations that may undermine the peacebuilding efforts in the Republic of South Sudan.
