The South Sudan National Police Service has clarified that the presence of security forces on the streets of Juba on Thursday is part of a routine practice to prepare for upcoming national events, including the 2026 General Elections.

Residents of the capital woke up to an increased security presence across major roads, sparking speculation and concern among the public. However, authorities have moved to reassure the population that the situation is stable.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin described the security situation as normal. He explained that as the country approaches the December 2026 elections, the police and other security organs will continue to conduct drills, exercises, and strategic deployments.

Gen. Justin noted that similar deployments have occurred periodically over the past months and weeks as part of standard operational readiness.

The police leadership emphasized that the increased visibility of personnel is not a response to any specific threat but rather a proactive measure for personnel training.

“The situation is normal, and this deployment is routine,” Gen. Justin stated. “The forces are undergoing refreshment courses as part of our preparations for the upcoming elections. We have deployed on the streets before—last week and last month—so this is not the first time.”

“The most important message for the public is that there is no insecurity. Security is under control, everything is okay, and people should not panic.”

The police spokesperson urged Juba residents to continue with their daily activities without fear and to cooperate with officers on duty. He reaffirmed that the primary goal of the current exercises is to ensure a secure environment for all citizens as the nation prepares for the upcoming political transition.
