The Speaker of the National Assembly, Joseph Ngere Paciko, has urged South Sudanese youth to reject hate speech and avoid being used as “political firewood” as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a youth workshop organised by the Political Parties Youth Forum with financial support from the African Union and in collaboration with the Ministry of Peacebuilding, Ngere said the training was aimed at promoting peaceful elections and strengthening democratic participation among young people.

He called on youth to play a constructive role in the electoral process by rejecting divisive rhetoric and fostering peace in their communities.

“Youth should reject hate speech and avoid being used as political firewood,” Ngere said, urging participants to become ambassadors of peace and national unity.

The Speaker also underscored the constitutional role of youth within political parties, encouraging them to uphold discipline, promote peaceful coexistence and contribute positively to the country’s democratic process.

He reaffirmed the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting a credible, peaceful and democratic electoral process in 2026, saying meaningful youth participation would be critical to safeguarding stability and advancing democracy in South Sudan.
