The Government of Ruweng Administrative Area says it plans to organize peace rallies in five counties of the area to promote peace and strengthen security ahead of the upcoming national elections.
According to the Minister of Information, James Monyluak, members of the cabinet will conduct rallies in Wunkur, Abiemnom, Jamjang, Jau and Aliny counties in the coming weeks to promote peaceful coexistence.
The peace rallies come following a deadly attack in Abiemnom County in February in which dozens were killed and hundreds displaced.
“He [Chief Administrative] will be visiting Wunkur, Abiemnom, Jamjang, Jawo and Aliny. These are the counties he will be visiting in the days and weeks to come, the significant of it is to inform the general public that the gvernment is to promote peace coexistence among the communities of Ruweng,” he said.
Monyluak said the rallies are intended to encourage peace and unity among residents, including refugees living in the area and communities of neighbouring Unity State.
“Peaceful coexisting with neighbouring communities and refugee communities also. We say that there is no way the ethnic groups living in the area to live together in peace unless we ensure that we love one another and to do things that bring peace. We are also going to enlighten our general population on the upcoming General elections in December 2026,” he added.
He said it is the responsibility of the government to encourage peace and prevent acts of violence in the community.
The Minister further said the government will use the gatherings to educate the public on the upcoming national elections.
