Some oil companies in Ruweng Administrative Area have resumed operations following Friday’s deadly fighting at an army barrack in the area.

Local authorities over the weekend said the attack, which was allegedly provoked by the armed cattle keepers briefly disrupted oil production in the area.

Ruweng Information Minister James Arop Ayuel said the clashes at Ofra army barrack, 26 kilometers West of Pariang town left three people dead and six others wounded.

“Yesterday (Sunday), most of them resumed. They were just assured of the security and they resumed. You know these people who are not natives of South Sudan fear a lot in case of any escalation of fight,” said Minister Arop.

“So, people around Ohim and el Tahr, where the fighting was, shut down operations. But on Sunday, the authorities talked to them that the situation is normal, and they should keep operating.”

Ruweng oil fields are mainly operated by Greater Pioneer Operation Company also known as GPOC.
