Police Dept issues new police ID to curb crime

The Ministry of Interior is distributing special cards to help identify police officers.

The Police spokesperson, Colonel James Monday Enoka said the idea will reduce infiltration of criminals into the organized forces.

Colonel Monday said several crimes have been committed in the country by criminals who wear police uniforms.

He told Eye Radio that the new police Identity numbers will enable the citizen distinguish between a police officer and a fake one.

“The ID needs a machine which produces these identification cards,” said Col Monday. “One machine has been brought.”

“We’ve started producing the IDs to high ranking officers and will soon reach the rest.

“The machine is expensive; it costs several millions of dollars. We are supposed to have them in all the ten states, but we could not purchase more because we don’t have enough money.”

Col Monday also called on all police officers who fled their units during the political unrest to report back to work.
