Plenty of Jobs for Docs, says CES Health Min.

Central Equatoria Health Minister says there are plenty of jobs for doctors in the state but few are willing to accept the work.

Dr. Emanuel Eja Baya told Eye Radio today that most recruits always turn down jobs in remote areas despite attractive allowances for the positions.

“There are those who do not want to be posted outside major towns, “said Dr. Baya, “We recruit them and then after sometimes, they resign.”

Dr. Baya condemned such a decision, calling it “not very nationalistic.”

However, many doctors in the country often complain of what they call “poor working conditions and little pay.”

Last week, Unity’s Leer County authorities announced that doctors and nurses had abandoned the government-run Leer Hospital over nonpayment of salaries.

In April this year, three patients reportedly died at Jonglei’s Bor Civil Hospital after medical personnel downed their tools, protesting against salary arrears.

Many young medical professionals seek job opportunities from non-governmental organizations which allegedly pay well.
