The Chief Administrator of Pibor Administrative Area has told President Kiir that the situation is calm after the recent deadly clashes in Pochalla County.

Lokoli Ame Bullen briefed the president on Monday about the general security situation in the Greater Pibor Area.

Bullen’s Juba visit comes a week after fierce fighting broke out between the South Sudan People’s Defense Forces and Pochalla armed youth.

“We briefed him (President Kiir) about the situation in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area especially on the situation in Pochalla, where a group of rebels attacked the barracks of SSPDF. So, we came to brief him that the situation is calm now,” he told state television SSBC.

Pochalla officials blamed the SSPDF for starting the violence saying it was triggered by the killing of Commander Colonel Joseph Okony, but the army said it acted in self-defense.

According to the SSPDF spokesperson, the army used air power to squash the militias who almost overran the army barrack.

The government in Pochalla also accused the leadership in Pibor of being behind the dispute, an allegation the authorities denied.
