The Minister of Interior, Jonglei State governor, and Pibor chief administrator have appeared in parliament to respond to questions about rising incidents of abduction, killings, and cattle raiding in the Greater Jonglei region.

During the deliberation, lawmakers listened to the presentation from Pibor Chief Administrator Lokole Ame Bullen and the governor of Jonglei State Denay Chagor.

The officials recommended a peaceful disarmament of youth and the deployment of unified forces in the two areas to take up security.

For her part, newly appointed Interior Minister Angelina Teny, says that her ministry is facing a lot of challenges including poor roads and communication networks.

Angelina also says other challenges are the presence of many arms in the hands of civilians, lack of courts, and limited resources for the police to respond to incidents.

Meanwhile, a lawmaker recommended the removal of Pibor’s Chief Administrator over the issue.

Another MP says both the Governor of Jonglei state and the Chief of Pibor Administrative have failed to restore peace and security in the respective areas.
