The death toll from the random shooting in Mundri West County has risen to 18, according to the SPLA.

SPLA spokesperson Col Philip Aguer Panyang says soldiers lost control and looted markets after the killing of the executive director, John Cleopa, on Friday.

He says five civilians were killed in the shooting.

“The SPLA lost 11 soldiers; eight soldiers were wounded, one policeman killed in action, two wild life wounded and five civilians killed in cross fire,” Col Aguer said.

He says the situation is now calm in the area. The fighting led to displacement of hundreds of civilians from the area.

Several families are now in Yei River County where they are seeking refuge. Officials there say the displaced are in need of relief aid.
