MOH forms task force on cholera prevention

Author : | Published: Tuesday, April 12, 2016

A task force to raise awareness on cholera at the onset of the rainy season has been set, the Ministry of Health has said.

An awareness and education health service officer says the ministry is training all health workers at Juba Teaching Hospital as part of prevention and response measures.

Mary Denis says this training is to improve the capacity in testing and treating cholera cases.

“The home health promoters should give key messages to cholera patients as well as the relatives who accompany them when they are entering or exiting the hospital,” Ms Denis said.

This comes after an assessment carried out by Case Management, Social Mobilization and Wash on cholera.

It recommended mass awareness campaigns against the epidemic, which killed 40 people in a national outbreak last year.
