Two men under arrest for poaching

Wildlife authorities are holding two men accused of poaching elephants.

They were caught carrying elephant tusks at the Juba International Airport on the 25th of May.

According to the authorities, the unnamed suspects were trying to smuggle the ivories out of the country.

“Lorry was carrying 24 pieces in the different size, there are two big big for the big elephants and going down for the small and very young elephant and the total are 24 elephant tusks and two people are arrested for that matter,” the Director-General for Wildlife Service General Kuol Mayen, told Eye Radio.

There have been reported cases of poaching.

Two months ago, wildlife officials accused SPLA soldiers of carrying out large scale poaching on animals and beating up wardens who tried to arrest the poachers in Jonglei.
