A Man Stabs his Drunk Brother to Death

A man has confessed to killing his brother in a fight in Agany-Amuol village, Warrap’s Twic County on Friday night.

He has turned himself in to the police.

Achuil Apiou Deng told Eye Radio that his brother, Deng Apiou Deng, who was drunk when he (deceased) attacked him while seated on a chair.

They were arguing over a bicycle.

Deng hit him with a stick. Then, Achuil brought out a knife and stabbed his brother three times until he died.

Achuil said he regrets killing his brother, and advises people not to fight each other to the extent of death:

“I would love to apologize to my family members that I did not intend to kill my brother; it was an unplanned incident. Therefore, I will just see from the court how it going to be in the future.  I am advising my peers not do what I have done – killing my brother.”

Twic County police investigator Captain Ayei Deng Ayei, confirmed that the fateful fight was caused by drinking.

Mr. Achuil Apiou will be arraigned in a court of law soon.

South Sudan Penal Code Act 2008 stipulates that whoever causes the death of another person commits an offense and upon conviction shall be sentenced to death or imprisonment for life and may also be liable to a fine.

This incident comes 3 weeks after Twic community of Buliom agreed to give up alcohol for two years.

The leaders took the step in an effort to stop the violence and disruption which occurred through excessive drinking.

They also agreed that anybody found drinking alcohol will be asked to give a bull to the community.
