Author : | Published: Wednesday, May 20, 2015

Several people displaced by fighting in Malut County are in urgent need of food and water supplies, the Minister of Information in Upper Nile State has said.

Forces loyal to Johnson Olony have been clashing in the state, particularly Malakal and the surrounding areas.

Peter Hoth told Eye Radio that the displaced are now camping near the oilfields in Palouch. He says women and children are the most affected.

“Those kids and mothers walked for long distance without water and food,” Mr Hoth said.

“This is a very dire humanitarian situation caused by man-made disaster. It’s really bad.”

He added that the fighting is still on.

“According to information we are receiving from military and security organ around here, they say the fighting is still going on.”

Mr. Hoth calls on humanitarian agencies to assist the displaced people in Paloch.
