Two local government administrators were shot dead in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr El Ghazal state by the suspected Misseriya militiamen on Friday January 13.

The attack which started at around 7 AM in Warguet Town near the Sudanese border, killed Boma administrator Santino Akech Angok and his deputy Peter Arol Yai.

The commissioner of Aweil East County Kiir Yor Lual, says two police officers in charge of a local police station were also wounded in the attack.

“It was yesterday (Friday) morning, at around 7 AM where an attack occurred in a place called Warguet Town closer to the border with Sudan, resulting in the killing of a local government officer and his deputy and also two other persons got injured,” said the commissioner.

The wounded officers have been identified as Lual Nyang and Mawiir Akon.

Commissioner Yor said the two wounded officers are now admitted to Aweil Referral Hospital.

He said the attackers have not yet been identified but he suspects the Misseriya militiamen from the neighboring Sudan.

“The wounded are police officer in charge of the station and general service officer attached to Boma office headed by the local government officer. The attackers are suspected to be elements from Misseriya youth who crossed over from Sudan to Warguet.”

Warguet area is located 20 kilometers South of the 1956 borderline between Northern Bahr el Ghazal and South Darfur in Sudan.

The area is known for its presence of the South Sudanese Army and it is described in a recent church mission report as a “dangerous place only for soldiers.”
