Lack of vehicles Impedes Fight against Crime in Juba

The police chief in Central Equatoria State says a lack of communication equipment and vehicles is hindering police efforts in fighting crime in Juba.

There have been many complaints in recent weeks about a surge in violence and criminal activity in the city.

Major General Abraham Manyuot says many police have been sent to provide security on the Juba – Nimule Road, which means police numbers are down in Juba.

But Major General Manyuot has told Eye Radio he needs equipment, too.

“The delay of police to the accidents is result of two things: the communications and mobility. We don’t have enough Motorola to give to the police personnel on duty. Again, we don’t have vehicles. Some of these vehicles are very old.”

The police chief encouraged community policing in residential areas, his department is ready to deploy police to those areas.
