Kiir sacks Bureau of Statistics boss Dr. Aruai

President Kiir has sacked Dr. Isaiah Chol Aruai, the head of South Sudan National Bureau of Statistics and appointed a replacement in a Republican Decree announced on Thursday.

Kiir relieved Mr. Aruai, one of the longest serving public officials, and appointed Augustino Ting Mayai in his place.

SSNBSS works to collect, analyze and publish all official statistics on economic, social, demographic, environmental and general activities and conditions of the people of South Sudan

The body also conducts all censuses and surveys that are carried out throughout South Sudan, and monitor and evaluate social impacts of public policies, projects and programs.

In 2021, SSNBSS conducted a satellite-based population estimate, which ranked Warrap State as having the highest population in South Sudan.

In another decree, Kiir appointed Major General Simon Majur as the Director of Civil Registry, Nationality, Passport, and Immigration.

General Majur replaces General Atem Marol Biar, who President Kiir appointed as the Inspector General of Police (IGP) in November 2023.

Kiir also appointed Ms. Lengi Stephen Obute as a non-executive member to the Board of Directors for the Bank of South Sudan.

Ms. Obute replaces Hon Nyiel Gordon Kuel, who has been appointed as the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, and she will serve as an executive member by virtue of her appointment.
