President Salva Kiir fired Finance and Planning Minister Dr Bak Barnaba Chol and appointed an Engineer as a replacement in a presidential decree read on the state-run TV, SSBC Friday,15,03,2024.

In a similar decree, Kiir relieved former Petroleum Minister Engineer Awow Daniel Chuang from his position as a technical advisor to the Ministry and appointed him as a replacement for Dr Bak.

The changes come amid the spiralling inflation in the country where civil servants have gone for about seven months without salaries.

It also comes a day after President Kiir said ‘they’ liberated the country for the youth to carry on from where they had left.

The Ministry of Finance has changed hands over the years, and despite the sacking of several ministers from the same position, the economy has continued to struggle.
