The government of Sudan has dispatched relief items worth 12 million pounds to South Sudan.

The aid includes an estimated 2,500 tons of food that is meant to assist vulnerable people in the country.

During the launch of the aid convoy in Khartoum, Sudanese Minister of Social Welfare and Security said the assistance came under instruction from the presidency to strengthen and develop relations with South Sudan.

Mashair Altilib said Sudan is expected to send more assistance to South Sudan, including 27,500 bags of sorghum in the near future.

For his part, the South Sudanese ambassador to Khartoum, Mayen Dut praised said the borders between the two countries will be open within the next two months.

Last month, the government of Sudan donated 250,000 bags of sorghum to help the needy communities in South Sudan.

This was after the visit of South Sudan Minister of Defense, Kual Manyang Juk, and other senior officials from the Transitional Government of National Unity who accompanied the First Vice President, Taban Deng Gai, to Khartoum.
