Author : | Published: Sunday, January 18, 2015

The civil society group, Community Empowerment for Progress Organization says a warning to shut down the Juba Monitor newspaper is against freedom of expression.

In a statement, CEPO says the newspaper received the warning from state authorities after publishing two articles describing the current crisis as an ethnic conflict.

CEPO says shutting down a media house without the authorization of a competent court of law is against the Transitional Constitution.

Executive Director Edmond Yakani says the current conflict requires citizens to express themselves in order to build trust and confidence.
