The authorities at Juba International Airport say the airport has reopened to flights after heavy rain flooded the runway and caused the suspension of flights.

On Friday, about 300 people coming from Paloch survived when their cargo plane slipped and crash-landed on the edge of the airport.

Footage shared on social media on Saturday showed a section of the landing site submerged underwater forcing the cancellation of all flights.

Kur Kuol, the Managing Director of Juba Airport said the water has now receded and the airport is receiving flights.

“Actually the water is reduced now, not like before, and the planes now land normally at the airport and we received several international flights,” Kur told Eye Radio.

The Airport official says the Ministry of Transport is working to solve the problem.

“This is beyond my authority, but the Ministry of Transport is planning to work on how to stop the running of the water over the runway.”
