A journalist detained by security forces in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal state, was released on Sunday without charge.

Deng Dimo was detained on Saturday and released after spending 15 hours in the cell without food and water.

Dimo works for Eye radio as stringer in the state capital, Wau.

He told Eye radio that he was arrested after an army officer accused him of abandoning army illegally. He added that he indeed left the army officially for journalism 10 years ago.

Dimo said he was released by a senior officer due to lack of evidence that proves he indeed left the army illegally.

The officer who arrested Mr Dimo has been locked up over the issue.
