The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission has announced that it is “seriously concerned about continuing violence and hostility” and worsening humanitarian situation around the country.

However, it says there has been progress in some areas of the implementation of the agreement.

In a statement, the JMEC says it will on Tuesday present its latest report on the progress of the implementation of the peace agreement.

This will be during its next meeting of the board in Juba.

Board members include representatives of the Transitional Government of National Unity, stakeholders and the African Union.

Others are IGAD member states, the UN, Troika, China and the European Union partners.

“We remain seriously concerned by the continuing violence and hostility around the country and the deepening humanitarian crisis,” JMEC Chairman Festus Mogae said in the statement.

“But we will also note and recognize those areas of progress that are being made towards the implementation of the Peace Agreement.”

He added that they’re also concerned about ceasefire.

“Respect for the ceasefire remains our singular priority and I shall be calling upon all Parties to the Agreement to extend and redouble their efforts and lead a campaign for peace that reaches out to the people.”
