The Deputy Governor of Central Equatoria has urged the national government to introduce work allowance for teachers in the country.

Manasseh Lomole said the allowance would motivate teachers and discourage them from abandoning the profession.

Speaking during the Governors’ Forum on Friday, Mister Lomole said quality education in the country is greatly impacted by un-motivated teachers who are not rewarded for their work.

“The value of chalk allowance is only 300 pounds to a teacher, to add on their miserable 280 pounds so that they can be able to buy a dress to put and can be able to take his child to school,” said Hon. Lomole.

“Otherwise, education has been a waiting bay, teachers come since there is nowhere to go, they hang there for a while looking for greener pastures. I strongly stand that this be included in the whole country.

“And should be paid under the conditional grants to all the states, and that way you would have strengthened education system in our country.”

For his part, the Minister of Finance, Aggrey Tisa said all salaries of civil servants are due for review.

Last week, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia said the government is carrying out an assessment on civil servants in grade one to four.
