South Sudan Foreign Affairs Ministry says the IGAD Council of Ministers meeting scheduled to take place on Tuesday in Juba has been canceled.

The Ministry’s statement on Monday says this is due to unavoidable circumstances, without specifying the reason.

However, the cancellation comes a day after regional leaders agreed to send three presidents to the Sudanese capital, Khartoum to reconcile the warring factions.

The regional leaders, in a virtual meeting, also called on the Sudanese Army led by Abel Fatah Burhan and the rival Rapid Security Forces led by Mohamed Hemiti Dagalo to cease hostilities and engage in political dialogue to end the violence.

The regional body assigned the Presidents of South Sudan, Kenya, and Djibouti to  Khartoum to mediate the fighting parties.

Despite the call, fighting continued on Monday with over a hundred civilians already confirmed dead, according to Sudan’s Doctors’ Union.
