Update: IGAD heads of state to meet in Juba tomorrow

A one day summit of the IGAD heads of state will convene in Juba tomorrow, the office of the President has announced.

Four presidents are expected to attend the summit in Juba to discuss solutions to the current crisis in South Sudan.

The Press Secretary in the office of the President, Ateny Wek Ateny, addressed the media at Juba International Airport after President Salva Kiir returned from Arusha, Tanzania this morning.

The four leaders will be actually talking on how to accelerate the process of peace in this country,” Mr Ateny said.

“So, it will encompass the recently concluded agreement between the factions of the SPLM in Arusha and the on-going peace process in Addis Ababa.”

The Kenyan President, Uhuru Kenyatta, Ugandan President, Yowerei Museveni, Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn, the chairman of IGAD, and President Salva Kiir are expected to attend the meeting.

Meanwhile, an SPLM Spokesperson, Akol Kur, says the intra-party dialogue, which took place in Tanzania discussed the root causes of the current crisis, which erupted due to differences within the party.

Mr. Akol said all the groups of the SPLM will meet again in November to continue discussing serious concerning within SPLM.
