IDP camp in Awerial - January 2014.

People who were displaced by the conflict to Mingkaman are now returning to Bor, The Jonglei Information Minister has announced.

Mr Jodi Jonglei says schools and universities have opened and registration is on-going.

He told Eye Radio’s Sundown program that the streets, markets and residential areas are becoming busier every day.

“We actually asked them – everybody in Mingkaman and everywhere outside Jonglei state – to come to Jonglei state because Jonglei state is free now from insecurity,” he said.

Jodi Jonglei said a peace conference will be held in the state next week to consolidate peace in the state and encourage more people to return home.

He said that more than 350 people will participate in the conference.

Bor is one of the areas which were worst hit by the violence, with about 2,500 people killed and markets and other infrastructure destroyed.

Over 90,000 residents had sought refuge in the neighboring areas, particularly Awerial, Lakes State.
