People in three payams of Aweil North County have been displaced by flooding, county authorities say.

Parts of Malual North, Malual Center and Jaac payams have been affected by flooding, with people fleeing to higher ground, said County Commissioner Kuol Athuai Hal.

The flooding has destroyed crops and damaged some homes, he said.

Hon. Athuai said he has met with the secretary of the Relief and Rehabilitation Council, RRC, to ensure that this is reported to humanitarian agencies working in the state.

“We are still waiting.  RRC secretary is on the process of giving reports to concerned NGOs in NBG to come and see the areas which have been destroyed by the rain flood,” he added.

Aweil North County RRC secretary Ms. Nyanut Kiir Bol said they have teams in the areas currently, assessing the damage and the numbers of people displaced.

“…… they should be patient because the government of South Sudan knows them and they will be working on their situation.”

Earlier this year, state government officials said they had a plan with NGOs to alleviate flood problems in many areas. However, none of these plans have been enacted.

However, none of these plans has been implemented.
