El Merriekh SC Bentiu have been crowned champions of the second edition of the South Sudan Premier League, capping a remarkable season with another major trophy.

The club secured the title on Sunday despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Jamus SC in their final match of the competition at Juba Stadium.

“Dream come true”

In a statement on their social media page, the “Pride of Bentiu” described the national league title as a dream come true.

The team also thanked supporters from Bentiu, their home town and capital of Unity State, as well as fans across South Sudan and around the world for their continued support.

“This achievement belongs not only to Bentiu, but to the whole of South Sudan and our supporters across the world. Together, we have shown that with belief, sacrifice, discipline, and hard work, dreams become reality,” read in part the statement posted on Sunday.

The triumph comes just days after El Merriekh lifted the South Sudan Cup, completing a historic domestic double this season.

Their latest success also marks a new chapter in South Sudanese football history, as El Merriekh become only the second club to win the national league title after Kator FC, who won the inaugural edition.

“The Pride of Bentiu has made history, and this is only the beginning. Champions today. Champions forever,” the team said in the statement.

In the South Sudan Cup, El Merriekh coach Ibrahim Hussain was named best coach, while goalkeeper Reech Magot won the Best Goalkeeper award.

Geatan Masha was also named Best Player of the South Sudan Cup 2025–2026.
