The former commissioner of Tambura County in Western Equatoria state has been killed after an armed group attacked his residence.

Babiro Charles Gbamisi was killed on Tuesday morning, according to the state information minister.

“We got a report that the former commissioner was killed in the attack,” William Baiki stated.

He told Eye Radio that the house of the current Commissioner of Tambura Mathew Mabenge was also attacked.

Late Gbamisi was appointed commissioner of Tambura County by Joseph Bakosoro after the 2010 general elections.

He was dismissed from the position in 2015 and later reappointed after the creation of 28 states.

During his term, the county installed a water network system, which is still being used to supply the residential areas.

Babiro also set up a power system using generators to light the town.
