An official at the National Ministry of Interior said the trial of the father who was accused of blinding his daughter, will be conducted in the capital Juba.

Major General Sadiq Ismail Sadiq, the Director of Legal Affairs at the National Police Service said the case is a crime against the state and requires public opinion.

“This is a case against states and a heinous crime, and it is a matter of public opinion, so the case will be tried here in Juba,” General Ismail said at a news conference at the Ministry on the weekend.

“We did not refer the case file because we are still arresting the rest of the parties involved in this case, like the owners of the motorcycle used to transport the victim, and the one who transported her, the rest of the partners.”

Suspect Angelo Agany was arrested by Tonj East County authorities early this month for allegedly torturing her daughter by gouging her eyes over her refusal of an arranged marriage.

His 18-year-old daughter Akuot Agany Kur was flown from Wau to Juba for more examination at the Egyptian clinic.

Last week’s primary medical examination has shown that the right eye of a girl pierced by the father in Warrap state is raptured while the left one is irregular.

According to Doctor Ahmed Mardi who attended to Akuot, the teen’s right eyeball is injured, and the retina detached.

Doctor Mardi said he is yet to carry out a computerized tomography scan to determine the condition of the left eyesight.
