The family of a teenage boy who was beaten to death over his sister last week in Juba are calling for justice.

Marial Manyang Arol reportedly died during a fight after he went to take away his sister who was eloped by another man.

Elopement, in most cultures in South Sudan is a situation in which a girl willingly runs away or is taken by force for the purpose of marriage.

The 16-year-old went with three other siblings to have their sister produced, as with the custom.

Manyang says his late brother was among four brothers beaten by their in-laws during a fight.

The youngster succumbed to injuries after he was hit on the head.

Manyang says, his late brother was among four siblings when they were caned with a stick by members who were present at that time.

16-year-old Arol succumbed to injuries after he was hit on his head with a boot allegedly causing internal bleeding.

“The incident happened on the 8th of this month at 9am and the problem occurred when our sister fell in love with one of the family members of Maduot Parek, initially General Maduot was not at home,” Manyang told Eye Radio.

“The young boys went to bring their sister back home but unfortunately they were beaten and this young boy lost his life because he was hit on the head with a heavy object and died on the spot in the house.”

Several calls to the police deputy spokesperson to comment on the matter went unanswered.
