The Ethiopian government has named the chairperson of the body that will monitor the South Sudan ceasefire and transitional security arrangements.

The Ethiopian Ministry of Defense says it appointed Major General Molla Hailemariam on request from IGAD special envoys.

The general is currently the coordinator of special heads of staff with the ministry of defense. He also headed the Ethiopian Air Force for years.

The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangement Monitoring Mechanism is part of the agreement signed in August to resolve the South Sudan conflict.

It will monitor the military aspects of the deal.
