President of the Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has directed relevant government institutions and industry stakeholders to initiate consultations aimed at addressing challenges affecting South Sudan’s telecommunications sector.
The directive followed a briefing presented at the Presidency by the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Ateny Wek Ateny.
Speaking after the meeting, Minister Ateny underscored the strategic importance of the telecommunications sector to South Sudan’s development. He noted that telecommunications infrastructure is a critical national asset that supports economic growth, improves public service delivery, strengthens national security, and promotes democratic governance.
President Kiir emphasized the importance of close collaboration among government agencies, regulators, and industry players to enhance the sector’s performance and ensure the provision of reliable and accessible communication services across the country.
The consultations are expected to identify key challenges facing the telecommunications industry and generate practical recommendations to strengthen the sector, support digital transformation, and advance South Sudan’s broader development objectives.
