The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology is reviewing the academic papers and accreditations of all civil servants in order to ensure quality assurance in public institutions.

University degrees and certificates will be scrutinized for authenticity.

In an interview with Eye Radio, the Director-General for Admission, Evaluation and Accreditation, Anthony Sebit, said a technical committee has been formed to undertake the process:

“We have the tools to know whether the holder of the certificate is coming from institutions that are not recognized or whether that certificate is forged,” said Mr. Sebit.

“You can have a PhD, but if the technical committee feel that you have not met the requirements for a PhD, the credit hours, the number of years you supposed to spend in order to get a PHD, or the required courses, they would say, hey, this PHD is equivalent to a masters’ degree or may be it is equivalent to a degree, or it is null and void.”

Mr. Sebit added that the purpose of evaluating certificates is to ensure that the properly qualified person is in the job.

“The academic qualifications will be reviewed by competent persons from the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Labor and Public Service.”
