The Juba County Authorities have said the legal land acquisition should only be issued to those working and residing in Juba.

Charles Joseph Wani said the capital city is for working-class people.

He called on the general public to follow the rightful procedures to acquire pieces of land in the state.

“Those who are getting land must be someone working here with his Identity Card, and we know that he is here for duty, he is not here just because you want to come to the capital city. The capital city is for those who are working,” said Commissioner Wani.

“You cannot come here in the capital city, and say you want to land, you want it for what? “You come in the right procedures, you are given the title deed, and it becomes your land,

“The right procedures of owning the land, you apply to the county authority, you apply to the ministry of physical infrastructure, and housing, then your name will be in the list, and get your plot [land],

“The people of South Sudan [all 64 tribes], they got their lands during my time. Almost thousands of people got their plots,

“In January, we are going to show them the places that they have already acquired, and we are going to open the road for them, and we are going to give them their place. So, these are the right procedures for you to get land.”

In October this year, authorities in Juba County launched an awareness campaign to guide citizens on how to acquire land legally.

The commissioner of Juba County, Charles Joseph Wani said the awareness drive aimed at mitigating land grabbing and ensuring that people seeking land ownership are not cheated.

Conflicts related to land grabbing and unlawful allotment of land involving different actors, are frequently reported in the suburbs of the capital, Juba.
