Civil society lauds Arusha agreement

The South Sudan Civil Society Alliance has welcomed the framework agreement signed by the SPLM factions in Arusha, Tanzania this week.

The document signed on Monday aims at reuniting the three factions of SPLM, the government, the SPLM in Opposition and the former political detainees.

Deng Athuai, chairman, says the signing of the framework was in line with the demand of the civil society to address the differences within the ruling party.

“it was a very nice move and it was the demand of the civil society in South Sudan that we should address our issues within one party and we have to address our issues with one spirit at home and that is South Sudan,” Mr Athuai told Eye Radio this morning.

He said the SPLM factions should address their differences and re-unite as one party in order to bring lasting peace to the country.

The next round of peace talks is expected to resume next week in Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
