Chukudum asks Lobong to remove commissioner

Author : | Published: Saturday, October 11, 2014

The Communities in Budi have petitioned the Governor of Eastern Equatoria State to sack the County Commissioner whom they blame of failure to control the insecurity in the area.

They say the killing which took place in Chukudum town early this week was due to what they termed as weak administration of the commissioner.

At least three people were reported to have been killed by unidentified gunmen on Tuesday night. A dozen houses were also burnt down.

During his visit to the area, representatives of the communities in Budi handed a written letter to Mr Louis Lobong, asking him to remove Commissioner Morris Kaunda.

They also threatened not to vote for Governor Lobong in the next elections if he does not replace Mr. Kaunda immediately.

Speaking to Eye Radio in Chukudum, Mr. Lobong said there were no clear reasons for the removal of the Commissioner of Budi from the office.

“Nobody addressed what caused the killing and the shooting in the town. And so the question of the removal of the commissioner  has been put to arrest until if there is a toll both of the communities have to sit and then and write a tangible reason what has the commissioner done,” Mr Lobong said.

However, the governor did not say whether he will dismiss Mr.  Kaunda from the office, or will maintain him.

However, the deputy chairperson of Buya Community, Joseph Napangiro, said they are not part of the petition, which was submitted to Governor Louis Lobong, asking him remove Budi Commissioner from the office.

He claimed that they were not informed of any plan to remove the Commissioner from the office.
