A delegation from Central Equatoria government led by the state deputy governor visited Kajo-Keji County on Sunday to assess the security situation following a series of deadly attacks in the area.

Deputy Governor Sarah Nene and several ministers jetted to the area in the wake of the murder of a police officer in his house in Kajo-keji town on 1st February 2024.

The death of the security officer occurred just a day after wildlife rangers clashed with “rebels” in a nearby forest – leaving one gunman killed, one more was wounded, and another captured.

Also on January 21, 2024, security officers were killed in a road ambush in the area.

The state government delegation attended a consultative meeting aimed at finding amicable approaches to restore peace and security stabilization in the area.

The government officials also addressed locals commemorating the first anniversary of a cattle-related violence which left 27 people dead on February 2nd, 2023.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Kajo-keji Commissioner phanuel Dumo said the visiting delegation called for peace among residents of the border area, and for armed holdout groups to cease hostilities and join the peace process.

“The delegation came from the state through the governor. They are here to assure the people of Kajo-Keji that they should remain united and disarmed,” Dumo said.

“The incidents have happened, and we cannot rule it but the security apparatus is still trying to investigate the situation and I think, they will let us know the level of insecurities,” he said.
