Authorities in Western Bahr el Ghazal State say calm has returned to parts of Wau County following recent cattle-related violence that left several people dead, injured, and displaced.

The state police spokesperson, Santino Uduol, said the security situation has improved after cattle keepers moved out of the area with the start of the farming season.

Uduol said security forces have been deployed across key areas to maintain stability and prevent further incidents.

He added that cattle that had been grazing in parts of Wau County have now returned to their usual areas as the cultivation season begins, allowing residents to resume normal activities.

“All the cattle that were grazing in part of Wau County have returned back to their places because this is the season of cultivation. The civilians and all the farmers are pursuing their normal activities of cultivation and they are doing their daily activities normally without any disturbance,” Uduol said.

He further stated that civilians and farmers are now carrying out their daily farming activities without disruption, while police and other security forces continue to patrol hotspot areas, including Bazia, Baselia Buseri, and along the Wau–Aweil Road.

According to the police, more than 200 head of cattle belonging to different groups had entered the area during the dry season for grazing, a situation that often leads to tensions between pastoralists and farming communities.
