Alexandria University to open branch in Tonj

The Ministry of Higher Education has signed a memorandum of understanding with Egypt’s Alexandria University to establish a branch in the newly created Tonj state.

According the MoU, there will be three colleges in the new campus: Education, Agriculture, and Veterinary.

Later, the university will open a college of nursing in Terekeka State.

In statement to the press, the South Sudan embassy in Cairo said all the arrangements for opening the university in Tonj have been finalized.

It says the establishment of the university comes as part of implementing a pledge made by the Egyptian government to the late Dr John Garang.

The MoU, which was signed on Tuesday by the South Sudanese Ambassador in Cairo, Anthony Luis, on behalf of the Ministry of Higher Education, and Professor Rushdi Zahran, the head of Alexandria University.

Alexandria University is a public research university in Alexandria, Egypt. It was established in 1938 as a satellite of Fuad University, becoming an independent entity in 1942.
