Abiemnom County Commissioner in Ruweng Administrative Area said one person has been killed and a woman injured in a cattle-related attack in the area, on Tuesday.

Matiop Dau Deng said the victim is a 43-year-old humanitarian worker named Gon Kiir Gon.

The deceased was reportedly with family in Abiemnom after taking leave from his workplace with a non-governmental organization in Wau, Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

Commissioner Dau says the wounded woman is 39-year-old Ajok Monyikon, currently being treated in Abiemnom Civil Hospital.

He says the unidentified cattle raiders disappeared through a nearby swampy area with ten cows.

Speaking to Eye Radio, Commissioner Dau said the organized forces were still pursuing the assailants by Tuesday afternoon.

“Today at around 2 am, a criminal group attacked a house with several cattle, and they killed one person called Kiir Gon Kiir and injured one woman called Ajok,” he said.

“She’s now in the hospital taking medication and they took ten heads of cattle in Abiemnom here, they went to the side of the swamps area.”

“The situation now is calm, but because they are criminals, now, we are after them to know where they have run to.”

Commissioner Deng said there are increasing cases of cattle-related attacks in Abiemnom County in recent days.
