Aid agencies call for protection of their workers

Humanitarian agencies and aid workers need protection so that they can serve the needy communities, the United Nations Coordinator in Jonglei State has appealed.

There have been attacks on humanitarian workers.

Hazel De Wet was speaking during an occasion to mark the world volunteers’ day organized by the South Sudan Red Cross and the International Committee of the Red Cross in Bor town yesterday.

“When you act as volunteer, it is very difficult to always get the acceptance and appreciation, it is a not an easy task,” Ms De Wet said.

“We need the level of security and we need to improve collaboration with the government.”

She urged the government to protect civilians, and called for cooperation with the government to enable them support the vulnerable communities in Jonglei State.
