If the warring parties do not want to end the conflict and bring peace, they must be sanctioned, the leader of Minority in the National Legislative Assembly has said.

Onyoti Adigo says the international community must impose arm embargo on the government and the SPLM-SPLA in Opposition if they don’t bring peace this time.

He was addressing the media in Juba upon his return from a four-day visit to Upper Nile State.

“We would like to say that anybody who is not accepting peace, there is a need for the international community, the African Union and the regional government to impose sanctions – even arm embargo on this country,” Hon Adigo suggested.

“We need embargo or sanctions that will not affect the citizens, we want the one which targets the ring leaders.”

Hon Adigo, who represents SPLM-DC in the parliament, said imposition of sanctions is the only means on bringing lasting peace to South Sudan if the warring parties insist on fighting.

About three weeks ago, the European Union imposed an arms embargo on South Sudan. It also invited all key international partners to consider the embargo.

However, the government has said sanctions is not a solution to the crisis in the country.
