Fashoda County in Upper Nile State has received a newly constructed health facility and school to improve access to essential services for local communities.

The facilities are located in Gulbany and Nyigiir Bomas and are among five projects that include schools and health facilities.

The project was implemented by IOM in partnership with the South Sudan government and funded by the World Bank.

IOM Operations Officer Bolis says the facilities will improve access to education and health services for children and communities in the area.

“Our children will have a safe and appropriate classroom environment that will support regular attendance. It will also provide an effective teaching and improved learning space, as we have witnessed here. The same applies to the PHCs here in Gulbany and Nyigiir Bomas. This will strengthen the community’s access to basic health services,” he said.

The facilities have been handed over to the county government for use by local communities.

The project was launched in 2021 and was initially scheduled to run until 2023. However, construction was completed in December 2026.
